History- What Makes Us Special
Doug and Marika moved here from New York City in order to restore this property, formerly one of several properties built at the turn of the last century when oil was first discovered at Drake's Well in western PA.  This was the era before cars, and oil was sent to refineries via an underground pipeline.  Pumping stations were needed every fifty miles along the long route to keep pressure on the line so that the oil could reach its destination.  Pump House B&B is one of the only properties in which the original homes of the foremen and the large brick buildings remain.  Doug single-handedly restored one of the buildings that originally housed huge steam engines that put pressure on the pipeline to keep the oil moving.   The rest of the building functions as an art studio where Doug pursues his work and also teaches drawing, ceramics, and stained glass classes.  This Old House magazine felt it was unique enough to feature the home and studio.

Classes
Noted artist Doug Hopkins also instructs interested guests in ceramic arts and stained glass design.  Classes can be structured for any age mixture - parents and children often work together to make a memorable souvenir of their stay at Pump House B&B.  During your class, Doug will teach the techniques necessary to make a ceramic tile or stained glass piece that he will finish and mail to your home. For the adventurous artist, Doug will be happy to work with you so that you can "throw" a pot on the potter's wheel.
